Manna Wok revisited following ownership change | Wichita By E.B.

Jun 12, 2025Jun 12, 2025

In September 2024, the longest running Korean restaurant, Manna Wok, changed hands, which game the original owners, Yong and Kye Chon, a chance to retire.

The new owner, Kody Raney, is no stranger, though, to the local restaurant scene. Some people may remember his former food truck called Bibimbap & Go that was around in 2018. For whatever reason, it took me a while to make it back to Manna Wok following the ownership change, but here I am ready to see what’s new.

The interior remained the same with hundreds if not thousands of photos lining the walls of Manna Wok.

While much of the menu was intact, there were two separate boards with new items for Manna Wok. For instance, we saw bulgogi fires and decided to have that as our starter. We asked for the spicy version and it delivered. This picture doesn’t do it justice, but we had the half portion which was plenty for our party of three. The bulgogi was perfect, easy to scoop with a fork to get some fries and sauce in each bite. I loved the level of heat; it wasn’t terribly hot, but enough to bring out the flavor and still make your taste buds tingle.

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again, the kimchi at Manna Wok is incredible; some of the best in town. Kimchi isn’t for everyone and that’s OK, especially if you’re dining with me because I have no problems finishing the plate.

For my main entrée, I went with one of the specials that I haven’t had before at Manna Wok, the budae jjigae. They told me what it was but my ability to pay attention is very poor, so I had to ask Wikipedia. Budae jjigae is a type of Korean stew made with various ingredients such as ham, sausage, spam, baked beans, kimchi, instant noodles, brisket, among other things.

I saw a nearby table order it and had to go with it. This was incredible. I’m not sure what kind of base the broth was, but it was delicious with a faint bit of heat, nice salt level and filled with all sorts of ingredients. The flavor profile is hard to describe, just very complex with a lot going on. Did I have a problem knocking this dish out? Yes. There was so much food in the bowl.

My friends had bibimbap and another soup dish I can’t remember the name of… like I said, I’m bad at paying attention, but they both enjoyed it.

Regardless, it was nice to see that the restaurant didn’t lose a step. I know the Chon family will be missed but at least this restaurant is in good hands.

Here is the dinner menu. Please note, the only difference is a minimal price difference in some meals.
