Aug 27, 2023Wichita’s newest Thai restaurant has opened on the northeast side of town.
Thai Table, a new project by longtime restaurateurs Chira and KC Piyassaphan, opened its doors Monday morning at 3570 N. Woodlawn. The new restaurant operates in the space that was home to Lina’s Mexican Restaurant until it closed in May.
The couple said they planned to fill the menu for the new restaurant, which is a full-service, sit-down place, with high-quality Thai food at reasonable prices. They are personally preparing traditional Thai dishes as well as popular Thai street food items like gapow (chopped meat or tofu with bell pepper, basil and brown sauce), hot wok curry, and San Grille, which features choice of meat or tofu grilled in a wok with spicy salsa, sliced cucumber and cilantro.
The menu, which you can see below, also features noodle dishes like Pad Thai plus fried rice, wok-fried entrees and curries.
The Piyassaphans, who are husband and wife, have had a hand in opening many Thai restaurants around the state: They founded Tuptim Thai in Topeka but sold it before it expanded to 2121 N. Rock Road in Wichita in 2018, and they also started Thai Diner in Lawrence but had to return to Thailand after about a year to care for a sick relative. Chira’s mother now runs that restaurant.
A former employee of the couple’s opened A-Hann Thai in Topeka but has decided to partner up with the Piyassaphans and will soon change the name of her restaurant to Thai Table. Also, Chira’s sister is the founder and owner of Thai Tradition restaurant at 650 N. Carriage Parkway in Wichita.
Inside, the new Thai Table bears no resemblance to its predecessor. The owners completely gutted and remodeled the space, turning it into a warm, comfortable wood-tone-filled restaurant. Though the building has a drive-through window, the Piyassaphans don’t plan to use it immediately (but they may turn it into a pick-up window in the future.)
Thai Table is open from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. for lunch and 5 to 9 p.m. for dinner Mondays through Saturdays. It’s closed on Sundays.
