If your nonstick pots and pans are peeling, it may be time to upgrade to non-toxic cookware that won’t leach chemicals into your food. As a big fan of cast iron skillets, stainless steel saucepans, and ceramic cookware, I couldn’t help but notice all the great deals under $40 at Amazon. I handpicked nine of the best, including our favorite Lodge cast iron skillet, a versatile Cuisinart pan, and a Dutch oven that’s only $22.

My Lodge skillet is a tried-and-true piece of cookware both in my kitchen and in our skillet tests. When we put it through the paces, the Lodge released eggs flawlessly and browned foods uniformly. I can attest to its performance, having made countless fried eggs on it for my weekend breakfasts. Its cast iron material is non-toxic and sturdy, making it especially great for cooking outside over a fire. It’s too good to pass up at only $20.

This Lodge skillet has looped handles for comfortable maneuvering. While the classic long-handled skillet might be too hefty for some to carry, this dual-handle version provides extra stability for carrying the pan from the stove to the dinner table.

My favorite pancake griddle doubles as a grill and is a great non-toxic option for breakfast aficionados. Made of the same durable cast iron material as our favorite Lodge skillet, this griddle accommodates large batches of food and provides even heating throughout its cooking surface. For excellent char marks on your burger patties, simply flip it over. Grab it while it’s on sale for 41% off.

A great stainless steel skillet doesn’t have to cost hundreds. This Cuisinart frying pan has an aluminum core that ensures fast heat distribution across the cooking surface. I especially like its curved handle, which provides a comfortable grip while cooking. The only pan I’m missing from my stainless steel collection is a 10-inch skillet, so I might just need to snap this one up.

This Cuisinart pan has a wide cooking surface and sloped sides, ideal for tossing spaghetti and meatballs, stir-frying vegetables, or simmering a sauce. I like that the curved walls promote smooth stirring while the domed lid traps moisture to ensure tenderness in braised chicken.

An affordable stainless steel saucepan is a must-have for tasks like cooking rice and making pastry cream. This one from Cook N Home, now 37% off, is constructed of tri-ply stainless steel for optimal heat responsiveness. The tempered glass lid also lets you track the progress of your food. Now that this is on sale, it might be time for me to say goodbye to the thrift store saucepans from my college days.

This ceramic skillet is visually pleasing and functional. Its high walls keep foods contained and the non-toxic ceramic coating releases sticky messes in seconds. I’ve parted with all my old nonstick pans, but I may have to make an exception for this ceramic-coated skillet that’s on sale for $36.

Lighter than cast iron but just as durable and nonstick, carbon steel skillets offer excellent heat responsiveness for searing, sautéing, or even deep frying. Our best value pick from Merten & Storck is only $20 and demonstrates impressive nonstick abilities right out of the box. We like that it releases eggs cleanly and has a comfortable handle. It also cleans up quickly with just warm water.

A Dutch oven for $22 sounds too good to be true, yet this nearly 50%-off Stansport Dutch oven proves otherwise. It comes pre-seasoned and has a tight-fitting lid to ensure thorough cooking. It’s designed for outdoor cooking (though you could also use it at home), so it’s sturdy enough for use on the grill or at the campsite. After all my years of camping, I’ve never owned a camping Dutch oven, so now might be the time to right that wrong.
